My dad thinks it's too many..but he generally doesn't like american cars. I don't know anything about cars, but from my understanding, hondas and toyotas can last 200,000-300,000+ miles. Please give me some advice and this would be my first car im 17.
Thank you in advance!

any car can last a long time, but its a matter of getting dirty to keep it running, however having to deal with a domestic car for a few years and than buying an acura (honda) they seem to do well on their own,.

just make sure u do all the recommended tune ups and changes and it will last longer

Listen to your dad!  These cars are generally okay when they are new and low miles but this is alot of miles for one of those cars and you will run into lots of problems with it.  That is just about the time they start to fall apart and that is why it is for sale the present owner is probably getting tired of buying parts for it.  Japanese cars are better built then the Ford Focus for the most part so that is why they go higher miles.

If the Ford Focus was maintained by the previous owner, it also can give you 200,000 miles. Years ago our overseas competitors had an edge on us where overall quality was a consideration. But right around the turn of the century our people in Detroit has stepped up their quality assurance programs and in my opinion our American made cars when compared to the equivalent foreign made car is as good if not better. I just drove a rented ford focus from Missouri to Ohio and back. Put about 1200 miles on it. On the interstate two people in the car with the A\C running we were averaging 35 miles per gallon and the little car ran perfectly and was extremely comfortable. In fact that little car has my wife and I discussing buying our selves a new one just like it.

Something else you may want to consider. Even tho some of the foreign cars are assembled her in the United States, most all the parts for those vehicles are made in the country of origin. If you buy a foreign car or truck only about 40% of the money you spend stays here in our country. On the other hand, If you purchase an American made vehicle, about 78 to 83 percent of your money stays in our country. Considering the condition of our country from the foreign envasion of products, much being autos, I think its time for Americans to step up and start buying American again.

I sure hope this helps. But keep this in mind, a used car is just that, a used car. You do not know how it was maintained or treated. How many drunks and rowdy children had a hold of it. Irregardless of whether it is American or foreign if they are treated badly and poorly maintained they will be a problem
