4 strokes are more reliable. I would get the Kaw.  Also, you would have to try hard to blow the engine, but I guess it can be done.  The only time I blew an engine was when the oil all drained out, then it seized.

You have to be an accomplished and very fast dirt rider to appreciate the Katoom's advantages. If you're not you should get the Kawi.

That bit about blown engines is just theoretical. Keep oil and coolant in it and you are not very likely to blow the Kawi's engine. I think that you will also find that, despite being simpler, the KTM is not at all cheaper to maintain.

A 4 stroke trail bike is more reliable and less maintenance, but a 4 stroke motocross bike is the same maintenance as a 2 stroke motocross bike, actually a little more because of valve adjustment. In a drag race yes a 250F is slower than a 250 2s, but on the track that is not the case. The 4 stroke hooks up so much better that I can turn faster laps on a CRF250R than on a YZ250 and this is true for any good rider/racer. Yes the 4 stroke would cost more if the engine blew and the valves got damaged in the process. The 4 stroke is also a much easier to ride bike for beginner to intermediate riders. It is also more versatile since the 250F works well in the woods also. The 250SX is a handful, I have owned one in the past. I wish there was a clear cut answer but I can only give you what I know to help with your decision.
