the wright flyer which was the fist plane to ever take flight. it was a biplane created by two men named wilbur and orville wright

Wright Flyer
Bleriot
Avro, Sopwith, Shorts, and Bristol (British)
Built and flown in 1909 by a team that included Alexander Graham Bell and Glenn Curtiss, the Silver Dart's longest flight was nearly 20 miles.

wright and curtiss both had a couple of pre WW l aircraft, but at the time remember that airplanes were in their infancy, and were a novelty at best. few people knew how to fly, and there wasnt much demand for an aeroplane, thus there wasnt much need for mass production. in fact if you look even today, mass production for the most part isnt very many aircraft built.
