That's counter-productive.  If the workers get less, they spend less.  If they spend less a lot of industries (including the auto industry), make less.  Causing THEIR employees to make less, causing the auto industry to sell fewer cars, causing ...

You can't fix shifting of wealth (which is the cause of the current problem) by shifting it more.  You just make the problem worse.  Sometimes you just have to amputate the affected limb to keep the whole body from dying.

One option that no one is talking about is simply freezing the CAFE requirements and the safety standards. The R&D spent there is significant. This should be tied to a freeze in all management bonuses/perqs and a belt-tightening in the executive suites. Add this to the cessation of the feather-bedding of the workforce and this should be a step forward.
