First time car buyer......need advice?

I am looking to buy my first car and dont want to spend too much nor do i want payments. i really would like a sports car but some sedans are not too bad. Not a honda fan at all. I was initally thinking a Nissan 300zx but i dont know about how much maintaince would be, gas, or if a 1995-1996 model is too old. Any advice for a first time buyer>?

Nissan makes a good product and the 90's models are some of the best they ever made.  

Gas mileage will depend alot of how you drive it, tune-ups, tire pressure and if it's highway or local traffic.  I wouldn't worry too much abut gas mileage since it's not a huge hog like most SUV's.  

Make sure you find one with lower miles and have your mechanic give it a thorough inspection.  Cars this old can vary greatly in condition.\

I suggest looking for a private party seller on craigslist.  You will likely find lower prices and sellers very willing to negotiate.
