damage? camshaft broken while car was been driven, tried to start car over and over,
would valves have been damaged?

if cam broke most likely they will be more than just valve damage

that is what is called a blown engine,,,if the cam brakes-the pistons are moving in the wrong sequence & will bend so the whole block will have to be rebuilt or swap /get another eng.-but it didn't damage anything else & the car wont start, the timing is off,,,

Besides the bent valves -you will be looking for bent rods. With the cyl head off- clean the crown of each piston and measure the extension of each at top dead center. If they are within a few thousands of one another, your rods are probably OK; put on a new cylinder head and get it professionally timed and your set. Good luck
