I just bought a car and the radio doesn't seem to work?

So it's a 1999 Mercury Mystique and the radio powers up and everything just I can't seem to get any sound with it. In the car right now is the old stock radio. I put a cassette in it and I didn't get any sound from the radio still. I just took it out to see if everything was hooked up where it should be to the back of the radio and everything is. So I really don't know whats wrong with it and would like to get an idea before I go and buy a new radio for it and find out something else is wrong with it.

There isn't a mute button I played with the deck in all sorts of ways before I took it out and played with it

Is that a tan car with a vinyl roof, all power windows, mirrors with a leather interior?

Only I traded in one like that in FL in January and it had all kinds of electrical problems - cost me $2,500 in repairs before I finally woke up....

Never again, sure hope it's not my old lemon.

all the speakers wouldn't go all at once maybe there is a mute option on the deck that you missed or some decks look like there on but are really off. my 2 cents
