People must sold because there was problem.
Also, new ones live longer than the old ones, so new ones are better?

It's safer to go with a new car, unless you go certified preowned.  I had a bad experience with buying a used car before and I will NEVER buy used again.  With new cars, you can also get dealer's warranties.  I think it is actually smarter to wait and save up for a new car or even finance it if you need one ASAP.  You're taking a risk with used cars.  Remember, especially if you buy it from an individual, it's a done deal.  If the car breaks down right after you bought it, it's your problem.  Certified preowned might protect you from those problems but usually the price will be raised so high that it's probably not worth it.  It's just a better idea to buy a fresh new car with no miles on it, warranty in place, hasn't been sitting outside through rain and snow over a winter, etc.  The only reason I can think of to buying a used car is if you're absolutely broke with crappy credit and that's all you can get.

One of my friends bought a used Nissan 240sx coupe.

He fixed it up... signed contracts with racing industry companies..

For 3 years, he's maintained the 240sx top notch (circuit racing status)

But everything under the hood is street-illegal.
